Scholar Advantages

The McNair Program is a nationally-recognized program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and offers participants many unique experiences and advantages, such as:

  • Fee waiver for graduate school applications
  • GRE preparation and vouchers
  • Semester book stipends
  • Funding toward transitional costs (i.e. acceptance fees, moving expenses) upon graduation
  • Research with a senior faculty member
  • National and international summer research opportunities
  • Funding toward research, conferences, and graduate school visits across the country
  • Opportunity to interview at doctoral programs of choice
  • Opportunity to receive full funding and fellowships to a doctoral program of choice
  • Financial literacy and debt management planning
  • Mentoring, seminars, and other scholarly activities designed to prepare you for graduate studies
  • Earn up to 3-6 credits (i.e. Basics of Research, Graduation Education Preparation I and II)
  • On-going graduate school planning, research and training until college graduation


McNair Scholars have attended, accepted, and received full funding and doctoral degrees from some of the most prestigious institutions in the nation, including, but not limited to, the following: Rutgers University, Harvard University, Yale University, Cornell University, University of California-Berkeley, University of California-Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.
